    1. Anna’s heartbeat is fast because she is nervous and excited to reveal the surprise and have Grandma read to everyone.

    1. Dad’s birthday surprise is that Grandma has learned how to read and can now read stories to her family.

  4. Why is Mom beaming?

    1. Mom is beaming (smiling) because she is so proud of Grandma for learning to read and she is also proud of Anna for teaching her.

    1. Anna taught Grandma to read when they were together on Wednesdays.

  6. Why does Grandma say it’s smarter to learn to read when you’re younger?

    1. Grandma says this because it is easier to learn new things when you're young and life would have been easier for her if she learned to read when she was younger.

  7. Why is dad smiling and crying at the same time?

    1. Dad is smiling and crying at the same time because he is overjoyed that Grandma learned to read and his own daughter was able to teach her. He is so proud of both of them. This was a big surprise!
