I hope you noticed that the 2 vowel teams make the same sound. They are different because they are used in different places in a word. “Oi” can be used at the beginning of a word like in ‘oil’ and ‘ointment’ and mainly in the middle of words, but never at the end of a word. “Oy” is usually used at the end of a word like in ‘toy’ or ‘annoy’. Can anyone come up with a word where ‘oy’ is used at the beginning of the word? It’s a challenge!
Reading - Copy the following link and listen to the story of
I Wanna Iguana https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZWvhcG7zeo .
As you are listening to the story I want you to think about these 2 questions:
-
What is the boy trying to do throughout the story?
-
What are some ways or examples of how he does this?
Language Arts - Log onto IXL using the information on the front of your agenda.
Complete in Grade 2 Language Arts:
-
VV. Adjectives and Adverbs #3 and #4
Math - Lesson 11.6 “Mental Math”
For today’s lesson, use the skills I have taught you when subtracting 2-digit numbers. Remember to always start in the ones place and check to see if there is more on the floor. If there is more on the floor, you need to regroup. Subtract your ones and then go to the tens place and do the same. If there is more on the floor in the tens place, you need to regroup from the hundreds. Last, subtract your hundreds.

Writing - Yesterday, I asked all of you to listen to the story I Wanna Iguana and think about what the boy was trying to do throughout the story and what were some ways he went about doing it. Hopefully, you were able to see that the boy was trying to “convince” (thanks for the great vocab word Ava!!) his mom to let him have a pet iguana. Throughout the story, he uses many reasons why she should let him have the iguana. For instance, he says that he will use his allowance money to pay for its food and he promises to keep his room clean. This story is part of our introduction to Opinion Writing.
Please watch the following 2 videos and we will talk more about opinion writing next week!
