REED AUTISM SERVICES PATH TRANSITION PROGRAM IN PARTNERSHIP WITH FELICIAN UNIVERSITY

Held on Felician University’s Rutherford campus, the REED Autism Services PATH Transition Program is a two-year certificate program that blends classroom learning with real-world experiences, focusing on community engagement, employment, self-determination, and personal management. PATH students engage in campus life by participating in events, visiting support services, such as career services and counseling and wellness, and using the campus amenities, including the computer lab and fitness center.

The program is approved by the New Jersey Department of Education and registered as a community vendor with the Division of Developmental Disabilities. Applications are now being accepted for Fall 2026. Students are encouraged to apply by March 15, as space is limited. I have also attached a flyer that we hope you will share.

Laura McKenna, PhD, Director of Parent Support and Outreach, Cope Center for Autism

Understanding what happens after high school is a big unknown for many parents with autistic children. Common questions include:

  • What happens after age 21?
  • Will college provide my child with sufficient support?
  • My child isn’t ready for work or college. What other options exist?
  • What resources exist that will help me care for my adult child?

College is Possible for Students with Intellectual Disabilities!

Students with intellectual disability can go to college. Learn more at the “Think Higher. Think College.” public awareness campaign website (www.ThinkHigherEd.net). There’s a new video and extensive resources to support and expand college options for students with ID.

The “Think Higher. Think College.” campaign is part of the Think College Inclusive Higher Education Network’s work to promote inclusive postsecondary education (IPSE) opportunities for students with intellectual disability. The goals of the campaign are to increase knowledge of inclusive college options, share information about the benefits and outcomes of students with intellectual disability attending college, and offer people ways to spread the message:

“Think Higher. Think College.”
