Every successful person sets goals for themselves.  

 

Without Goals:

You are like a rudderless sailboat without them because you go where the wind takes you.  Without goals, you have no path to follow and as you age, you look back and ask yourself, "How did I get here?"

 

With Goals:

You have direction while in school, on the job, in your family life, for your finances, your entertainment, your retirement, etc.

 

Goals allow you to get the best for yourself via all that life has to offer. Goals allow you to expect the best and make your dreams possible.  Dr. Norman Vincent Peale said:

"If you expect the best, you will be the best.  Learn to use one of the most powerful laws in the world: change your mental habits to belief instead of disbelief.  Learn to expect, not doubt.  In doing so, you bring everything into the realm of possibility."

 

When students set goals and make plans they are more likely to:

  • use more effective learning strategies,
  • prefer challenging tasks,
  • evidence positive attitudes toward learning, and
  • believe that success follows effort.*
