Did you know that donating one pint of blood
can help save 2 - 3 lives?
2023 - 2024 School Year Blood Drive Schedule:
- To be determined - COVID-19 Permitting & IBOE Approval Required
The Irvington High School students and staff donated:
- 13 pints of blood in November 2018
- 14 pints of blood in April 2019
- 2020 - drive canceled due to the pandemic
- 2021 - no drive due to the pandemic
- 2022 - no drive due to the pandemic
- 2023 - no drive
- Look for the return of the Blood Drive in 2024!

Useful information:
- Will donate 1 pint, we have approximately 8 - 10 pints (adults have more than children)
- It takes about 55 days to regenerate the pint donated
- Sterile process, use single use needles only
- Students must weigh 110 lbs.
- Takes about 15 minutes to donate (the whole process can take about 45 - 60 minutes).
- Donors need to eat breakfast or lunch before donating
- Donors will be given snacks and something to drink after donating
- Students 16 (16 & 17 year olds need parental permission/get permission slip from Mr. Romano) and older can donate
- All student donor's will have to get the permission of their teacher to donate. Get permission slips from Mr. Romano.
- Donors will need to have a picture ID, license, or demographic printout from PowerSchool.
- Donors should eat foods high in iron (red meat, spinach, collards, dried fruit, iron-rich cereals, turkey, beans) at least one week before they donate (or risk the chance of being rejected if their hemoglobin count is low)
- Tattoos and piercings: as long as it was done by a licensed business, it would be okay to donate.
