Matisse Art Collage

Objective: Students will be able to create a Matisse art project by cutting out lots of different shapes, and gluing them to make an interesting collage. If you do not have paper to cut you can draw and color them in.

 

Motivation:  Henri Matisse was a French artist, known for his use of color. After losing the ability to paint late in life, he explored and mastered the art of cutting paper. We are going to use different shapes to create our collage in the style of Matisse.

 

1. Watch the video and then follow the steps to create your own collage or follow these steps below.

2. Cut about 4 large square shapes and glue them on top of each other.

3. Cut about  medium and large shapes and glue on top of the squares.

4. Cut about 8 small shapes and glue on top.
