Symmetry Butterflies

 Standard: 1.2,1.3

Objective: Students will demonstrate Bi-Lateral Symmetry within artwork.

Materials: Paper, crayons or any art supplies, and pencil

Motivation: Talk about symmetry- they are the same on both sides. Discuss a few things that are symmetrical (face, heart, triangle, star, etc.)

Step 1: Follow the steps on your How to draw a butterfly worksheet or click the How to Draw a Butterfly Link. Practice on the space below and then draw a symmetrical butterfly on your finial copy.

Step 2: They can draw a pattern on one side of the butterfly wing and mimic on the other. For example, adding symbols, dots, zig zag, and diagonal lines work great. Make sure your butterfly is symmetrical (the same on both sides).

Step 3: Now it is time to add a background! Is your butterfly flying in the air or in a garden?

Step 4: Last time to color make sure you color in your butterfly the same on both sides!

Please return these projects completed with color when you return to school.
