Pattern Drawing

Standards: 1.1, 1.3

Objective: Students will be able to create some fantastic patterns with objects found around the house that will amaze.

Materials: Paper, pencils, rules or straight edge, round lids(margarine lid, yogurt cups, milk caps, etc.) and art coloring supplies (crayons, colored pencils, markers etc.)

Motivation:

Step 1- Start by drawing between 10 straight lines across the paper. They can go in any direction, just as long as they travel from one edge of the paper to the other.

Step 2- Next, place your circular objects on the page and start tracing them. Add as many or as few circles as you like and let them overlap in some areas.

Step 3- Now comes the fun part. Grab your  crayons, colored pencils, markers, etc. — whatever you have on hand. Begin filling in every other space with color. Take your time and don’t panic if you “mess up” just continue on with the pattern.
