Wayne Thiebaud Ice Cream Sundae
Standards-1.1,1.3,1.4
Objective: Students will be able to create a pop art ice cream cone in the style of Thiebaud.
Motivation: Wayne Thiebaud was a well-known artist that created deserts like pies, cakes, ice cream cones, and pastries. He was an art teacher in California. He was incorrectly associated with Americcan Pop Art because of his many everyday culture objects.
1. Watch the video to see some of Wayne's art work and then follow the steps to create your own ice cream sundae. You can use the steps at the top of the page as well.
2. Draw a big U on the bottom half of your page for your dish. Then add a straight line across the top. Add 2 skinny lines for the bottom of your dish. At the bottom of that add a triangle to complete the bottom.
3. Draw a half circle on top for your ice cream. You may add as many scoops as you wish. Add a wavy line at the top of the dish and a bumpy line in the middle of the dish.
4. Next, add whip cream, cherries, sprinkles, straws, spoon and any other toppings you want.
4. Now it is time to design your background. You may add a pattern, dots, stripes, etc. Be create and have fun!
5. Last it is time to color. Remember to use bright colors and color in all of the white.
