Folk Art Landscape

Standards-1.1,1.3,1.4

Objective: Students will be able to create a Folk art landscape using patterns.

Motivation:  A Landscape is a picture of land. In this landscape, can you point to the horizon line? (This is where the line the sky and land meet. These landscapes are very colorful and bright. Do you see how they include patterns with shapes and lines? These patterns make different crops on a farm but in a unique way. That's what makes this folk art. Folk art is bright, colorful, and fictional artwork. An artist who paints like this is Heather Galler.

1. Watch the video and follow the steps to create your own Folk Art Landscape or follow these steps below.

2. In the middle of your page draw a straight or hilly horizon line. Divide your ground into sections leaving  space between each line. Then add some patterns to each section with lines and shapes.  Next draw a background that includes a house or barn, some trees, a sun, and clouds.

3. When you are finished drawing outline your pencil lines with black. This will make your drawing stand out. When finished you may color with crayons, markers, or colored pencils.
