WELCOME TO APHG! Throughout the year we will participate in several projects and fieldwork opportunities. Check out this page frequently to see geography in action!
Mapping the World!!
2nd Hour Students spend some time becoming acquainted with their brand new APHG textbooks!
Understanding perspective is crucial to understanding geography. This lesson using storybook images was a fun way to understand how perspectives can change with more information.
Population Pyramids can tell us a lot of significant information about the social, political, and economic influences on a country's development. Students in 1st hour analyze student-created population pyramids, and evaluate population trends and patterns in the United States from 1940-2020. Great conversations and questions were generated during this activity!
Culture Field Study: Downtown St. Francisville
APHG students explored downtown St. Francisville from a geographic lens. During our field study, students examined how religion, folk and pop culture, and language have impacted our town's cultural landscape.
Students explore downtown St. Francisville and see historial remnants of Bayou Sara. Also, students find a real example of sequent occupance behind West Feliciana school board office behind the Julius Freyhan building where they found a Jewish synagogue, now a Presybyterian church, and memorial benches to past graduates of the former school, including the Class of 1925!
GROCERY STORE FOOD STUDY:
WHERE DOES OUR FOOD COME FROM??
Students got a "behind the scenes" grand tour of the inner workings of the Audubon Market.
Why does most of our produce come from Chile? During our tour we learned how supply and demand really impact where our food derives and how much it costs. We also learned about the safety meausres that the produce and meat departments have to take in order to ensure high quality goods. We were able to apply the strengths and weaknesses of the Von Thunen model to modern day production, processing, and distribution of goods to local markets.
