Classroom Management Plan

Mr. Overacker’s Class

Dear Parents,

Teaching your student is a privilege, and I do not take that privilege lightly. As a public school teacher, it is my job to ensure that every one of my students learns.

Because of this, I use and enforce a simple set of rules to prevent behaviors that will inhibit other students from learning. I would like to share these rules with you, as well as their consequences, so that you understand my expectations and know what to expect in the event that your student breaks a rule.

The purpose of this is not to be a control freak; instead, it’s to faithfully do my job of making sure every student gets a full chance to learn every day.

Mr. Overacker’s Classroom Management Policy

  1. Listen and follow directions.
  2. Raise your hand before speaking.
  3. Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
  4. Respect your classmates and your teacher.
  5. Participate positively.

Consequences

1st instance -- a warning (name written on board)

2nd instance -- removal from peers, refocus reflection sheet, and Minor Infractons sheet (one line under name on board)

3rd instance – phone call home and letter home/referral to coach if athlete (two lines underneath name on board)

4th  instance – referral to Dean of Students (three lines underneath name on board)

On the back of this note, you will find a sample letter that you would receive from your student if he/she were to behave against the classroom management policy three times in a day.

In order for your student to be allowed to use his/her computers in my class, this form needs to be signed and returned.

Thanks so much for helping me ensure that all of my students learn. If you ever have questions or concerns for me, feel free to contact me at [email protected] or 318-387-2932 ext. 1461.

Sincerely,

Justin C. Overacker

Classroom Management Parent Letter

Dear Parents/Guardians,

_____________________ broke the following rules today _________:

___Listen and follow directions.

___Raise your hand before speaking.

___Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

___Respect your classmates and your teacher.

___Use technology appropriately.

When a student breaks a rule three times in a single class period, I send this letter home. I do this because, as a parent myself, I appreciate knowing about my child’s conduct in school.

My classroom rules are aimed at protecting the rights of every student to learn and enjoy school. By choosing not to follow them, your child interfered with those rights today. I have no ill will toward your child, and I know that we all make mistakes. What matters is whether we use those mistakes to improve ourselves for tomorrow.

Should your child have this problem again, it may be necessary to move on to the school’s centralized after-school detention.

Please sign your name at the bottom of this letter and have your child return it to me tomorrow. A prompt return of this letter insures against further consequences.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Justin C. Overacker
