Greetings! We hope you enjoyed our professional development session on Zumba & A.C.T.I.V.E. Reading Strategies! Here are the handouts from our session. We encourage you to use these engaging strategies in your own classroom (whether physical education, music, foreign language, or ELA) to prepare our Monroe City gems for PARCC assessments and the Common Core State Standards. Session Objectives:

 

  • Understand each of the six major comprehension strategies and apply each to short texts
  • Demonstrate use of comprehension strategies through text coding, margin notes, sticky note comments, or reading journal entries
  • Demonstrate how comprehension strategies can aid in reading one of their content textbooks
  • Apply learning of six major comprehension strategies in any content area classroom
  • Perform Zumba!
