Student Expectations
Botany – Mr. Rudderow
I. Academic Requirement
Student’s achievement will be determined by successful completion of exams, tests, quizzes, classwork, homework, reports, projects, laboratories, unit tests, and class participation.
II. Behavior
Students are expected to arrive to class on time with all class material.
Students are to obey all school rules of discipline
Students are expected to respect the rights of other students to obtain an education and not infringe upon those rights by disrupting class.
Students are expected to do their own work and do it honestly. Group projects and team work will reflect everyone’s sincere effort to strive for excellence. Be proud of your work!
When the teacher is absent, all students will follow the directions given by the substitute teacher. Every student is expected to complete all assigned work.
III. Start-up Routine
Most days, there will be directions on the board. Students are expected to enter the room, collect their notebooks, open to the activity as directed and follow the instructions on the board. This may involve reading the day’s activity and writing a hypothesis. These will be checked each class day as the lesson begins and will count towards participation.
IV. Evaluating/Grading
Grades of “Checks for Understanding” during the Marking Period will be averaged and will make up 15% of the Marking Period grade.
Project grades will be averaged and will make up 15% of the Marking Period grade.
Lab Report grades will be averaged and will make up 15% of the Marking Period grade.
Problem grades will be averaged and will make up 10% of the Marking Period grade.
Unit Test grades will be averaged and will make up 20% of the Marking Period grade.
Constructive participation in class will make up 20% of the Marking Period grade.
Homework grades will be averaged and will make up 5% of the Marking Period grade.
To determine the Final Grade, each Marking Period grade will count as 40% and the Final Exam grade will count as 20%.
V. Homework
Homework may be given up to 3 times per week. Usually each assignment can be completed in approximately 30 minutes. It is expected that the homework will be completed before coming to class.
VI. Class Materials
Students will be assigned a notebook that should remain in the classroom unless needed to complete work or study at home. Other books may be supplied in class for use in class.
VII. Extra Credit
Extra credit will be available to those students who complete all assignments and complete the extra work within the allotted time. Extra credit will not be given to those students who have not completed their regular assignments.
VIII. Progress Reports
Generally, once or twice per month, students will be issued progress reports to allow them to see their grades and know what work is missing. It is expected that students will share these reports with their parents. However, students are encouraged check their grades online via Genesis.
