Botany is an in-depth study of plants.  Students will be looking at plants from both an agricultural production and scientific perspective.  Students must successfully complete Intro to Agriscience to enroll in Botany.

Topics that will be discussed in class are:

  • Introduction to the Plant Industry
  • Soil and Media
  • Plant Anatomy & Physiology
  • Plant Taxonomy
  • Plant Growth
  • Plant Reproduction/Propagation
  • Integrated Pest Management
  • Uses of Plants


In studying those topics, students will be participating in many hands-on activities including:

  • Dissecting flowers
  • Indentifying plants by their leaves, stems, or seeds
  • Propagating plants by seeds, cuttings, and grafting
  • Testing soil
  • Growing plants hydroponically
  • Determining soil texture
  • Creating a Grower's Guide for plants of the student's choice


Students who successfully complete Botany may enroll in Landscape Design.
