~Math~

Can Kids Love Math? | Holly Akers

Let's journey into the world of Mathematics! Math is all around us!

It is important for the children to be able see that math is a part of our daily lives and for them to learn to use their skills each day.

Vocabulary is an important element of mathematics as it is in every other discipline. With every chapter of our math program there will be key vocabulary words for the children to learn. They will be expected to use those words as they explain and solve problems. It is also important for them to be able to read and write them as appropriate. Writing has become a key component in math and that includes vocabulary. As we enter into each chapter, I will be adding new words to this page so that you know what our focus will be. These words will also be posted in the classroom on our math word wall.

 Math Facts

Please have your child practice their basic addition and subtraction facts.  This is very important! Fact drills, flash cards, math board games, computer games, etc. are all great ways that your child can practice memorizing his/her facts.  Please email me if you would like me to send home a math fact practice packet every Monday so that your child can practice their facts at home.

Here are some activities you can do with your child throughout the year:

  • Please practice counting orally and writing number patterns of 2's, 5's and 10's to 200.
  • Please practice telling time to the hour, half hour and the fifteen minute using an analog clock.
  • Practice counting coins of various combinations up to $1.00.
