Homework/Classwork:  Reading assignments will be given each day and are expected to be completed prior to coming to class each day.  Any work on these assignments that is not completed in class is to be completed for homework. Students will be graded on their completion of these in-class assignments. Students are also expected to demonstrate sufficient accuracy and fluency when completing these assignments. Specific grading criteria for these assignments can be viewed on the class’s site on Mastering Chemistry. Students may request no more than two deadline extensions per marking period and may repeat no more than two assignments for a higher grade. (Worth 15% of the grade)

Tests will be administered approximately at the end of each chapter. Dates of tests will be announced verbally and via Google Classroom. Students will be given at least one week’s advance notice of tests (verbal or online). (Worth 40% of the grade)

Quizzes (both announced and unannounced) will be given throughout each marking period. In addition, from time to time written work showing how homework problems were solved may also be collected and counted as a quiz. For announced quizzes, at least two days’ notice will be provided (verbal or online).  (Worth 25% of the grade)

Labs, Lab Reports and Lab Journals: Students will be expected to write lab reports or lab journal entries to document their laboratory work, interpret collected data and make inferences based on their data. Lab report and lab journal formats and rubrics will be distributed on Google Classroom prior to the submission of each laboratory assignment.  (Worth 20% of the grade)

Make-up Policy:
If a student is absent from class for any reason, it is expected that the student will obtain any missing work from the Google Classroom Stream, the teacher and/or friends in class and/or make up any missed tests and/or quizzes. Work must be made up within two weeks of a missed assignment. (NOTE: School policy dictates that work missed because a student cut class cannot be made up and will receive an automatic grade of zero.)  It is the student's responsibility to follow this policy and make any necessary arrangements.  Any work that is not made up within a week of returning to class will receive a grade of zero.
