COURSE DESCRIPTION
According to CIP (Classification of Instructional Programs): “Digital Arts is a general, undifferentiated program that focuses on the use of computerized digital images as the primary medium of expression in the visual and performing arts, and that may prepare individuals for a wide variety of careers using new media, including (for example) graphic design, interactive media design and photography.”
The term digital artist is used to describe an artist who makes use of digital technologies in the production of art. In an expanded sense, "digital art" is contemporary art that uses the methods of mass production or digital media.
Digital Arts is a creative process that combines fine art and modern technology to create digital works of art. Students will learn to take their ideas and concepts, along with the elements and principles of design, to create digital art and design, using computers and software programs (ie. Photoshop and Illustrator), digital cameras and scanners.
Students will be introduced to the discipline of digital arts through the exploration of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Students will learn about digital artists of our time, artists of the past, and ourselves as artists. Art periods will be covered and discussed. The art that the students create will be two-dimensional and entirely created on the computer. Opportunities will be available for students to expand their creativity and push their minds to the limit. Students will create (for example) self-portraits, digital photographs, collages, digital paintings, and more in the class.
After taking Digital Arts, students will enjoy a deeper understanding and appreciation for all things digital as they explore this special genre of art found in everything from advertising to animation to photography and beyond. In this course, they’ll learn about the evolution of art, the basic principles of art and design, and the role of art in politics and society.
