COURSE DESCRIPTION

Graphic Design III is where students learn about the old school way of graphic design. Before the advent of computers, design was done using mechanical boards, overlays, pen and ink and hand set typography. As part of this class, students will be engaged in working in these mediums to create various projects.

 

Students will also learn about the business of graphic design, such as agency work, jobs, running projects from start to finish, working with clients and being able to successfully nagvigate multiple concepts to achieve fantastic design goals.

 

TECHNICAL TOPICS TO BE COVERED:

As a result of taking this class, you should be able to:

  • Understand how to work with clients from start to finish.
  • Understand the various roles of a design agency, such as art director, copywriter and account manager.
  • Understand how to work within specific guidelines for complex design requests.
  • Work on tight deadlines, with possibly limited resources.
  • Gain valuable knowledge of how to work with original design production, such as pen and ink, overlays, etc.

 

Assignments will include pen and ink portraits, book design, marker comps and mechanical boards.
