Students in 3rd grade will continue to cover the Elements of Art.  They will cover all of them (line, shape, color, texture, form, space, and value).

Students in the 4th grade will review the Elements for the first half of the year.  The second half of the year will cover the Principle of Design(I have a page devoted to them on this site).

Both grades practice using different materials and techniques.  When learning these different styles, students will also be viewing and discussing many artist's works.  By looking at the works of the master's, we will also discuss ideas like Still Life, Landscape, and Portrait.  These three ideas are the subject of most artworks and are important to learn.

As in the younger grades, the subjects of their artwork are often pulled from the curriculums from their other classes.  For example, both grades discuss symmetry.  This is a topic covered in their math classes but is also related to balance, a Principle of Design.

In Summary, students in 3rd and 4th will learn:

-Elements of Art

-Priciples of Design

-to use a variety of materials

-to use a variety of techniques

-different artists

-Still Life, Landscape, and Portrait

-topics related to subjects taught in their other classes
