Weekly Spelling Homework
All spelling homework should be completed in the green notebook with your student's name on it. Your student will refer to this book as their "H Book". Please remind students to use their best handwriting! H books must be signed nightly. Students must make-up any spelling homework missed due to absence or forgetting to complete.
There will be a pre-test given every Monday. This gives me and you an idea of their background knowledge of the skill.
Monday - Write spelling words 1-10 three times each. Please number in the margins.
Tuesday - Write spelling words 1-10 three times in ABC order. ABC order will always be completed in class (the first half of the year will be done together and second half of the year will be completed independently).
Wednesday - Write 5 sentences using the first 5 words in the ABC list. Our class will have the sentences modeled in the beginning of the year and independence will gradually be released. Sentences should be 3-4 words (or more if able) at the beginning of the year and gradually increased to 5-7 words. Sentences should start with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark. Underline the spelling word in each sentence.
Thursday - Write 5 sentences for the remaining 5 spelling words in the ABC list. Our class will have the sentences modeled in the beginning of the year and independence will gradually be released. Sentences should be 3-4 words (or more if able) at the beginning of the year and gradually increased to 5-7. Sentences should start with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark. Underline the spelling word in each sentence. STUDY for spelling test on Friday.
Friday - Spelling test given in school. No homework.
