Introduction to Pre-Decodable and Decodables in our KB Reading Program
During our first weeks of school, we will begin our reading program, which consists of pre-decodable and eventually, decodable materials. A decodable helps introduce sight words weekly, practice and increase fluency, and introduce phonetic awareness skills taught weekly to begin the reading journey.
We will send a pre-decodable book home each week. Please review the book with your child and take a picture walk together. We will note this assignment on our homework calendar on Thursdays. Please sign the book and return it on Friday, and I will return it to you to keep for an “at-home” library—a great way to track your child’s reading progress.
We will establish the “Just Right Library” for your child, ensuring they always have a book to look at or read during downtime in our daily schedule.
Reading to your child daily for 10 minutes can result in significant progress in their reading and helps foster a love of reading. Reading together or taking turns with your child is a wonderful way to foster this love and excite them to read!
Have fun and enjoy this remarkable progressive journey your little learner is beginning! With your nightly help and support, you are an intricate part of your child’s reading evolution.
Thank you in advance for your support during this exciting time! We greatly appreciate your involvement and look forward to working together on your child’s reading journey.
