When to Stay Home

Sending your child to school sick puts your child at risk for prolonged illness AND puts the children around him/her at greater risk for becoming ill.  The following guidelines will assist you in determining when your child is too sick to come to school.

Please keep your child home if he/she has...

- Fever > 100.0  *must be fever free without using fever reducing medication for 24 hrs before returning to school

- Nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea *must be free of vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hrs before returning to school

***if your child's 24 hours ends during the school day, please keep them home until the next school day***

- Acute cold and/or persistent cough

- Sore throat

- Persistent headache

- Muscle aches or shivers

-Inability to sleep much of the night because they don't feel well or extreme fatigue

- A rash of unknown origin *should be examined by a doctor to make sure the rash is not contagious
