Hey everyone!!! Hope this information is helping to keep you all up to date with our class and helping pass some of the time while we are home. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via email or our Remind page. I hope you and your families are doing well and you all have maybe passed on some of the infection control practices we learned in class to your families to help prevent the spread of infection :)

 

Here is this weeks review materials:

1. Read and review Chapters 5-8 and complete chapter reviews at the end of each section. Review all terminology

   CH 8-Emergency Care, First Aid, and Disasters-Review how to respond to various emergency situations (MI/complications of Diabetes-hypo/hyperglycemia/Seizures/CVA) Identify symptoms or signs of the emergency situations to report. CNA role in Code.

   CH 7-Safety and Body Mechanics : review common accidents in facilities and how to prevent them (falls, burns, poisoning, choking, resident identification, cuts, sharps safety, and general safety). Review SDS and what is included on them. Review principles of Body Mechanics and how to apply in daily use. Review types of restraints and complications associated with use along with restraint alternatives.Review safety guidelines for oxygen and IV lines. Review fire safety and RACE PASS.

   CH 6- Infection Prevention; This chapter is so important especially with all that is going on in our world today. Many of you, I am sure have seen pictures of healthcare workers donned in PPE. It is a great time to review what we have learned earlier in the semester from this chapter. Review types of infection and symptoms, the Chain of Infection and how to break it. Review what makes elderly people at higher risk for infection. Review CDC and Standard Precautions including hand hygiene. Review types of PPE and appropriate ways to apply, when to use and how to dispose of. Review the 3 types of Transmission based Precautions (Airborne, Droplet, Contact) Review how to care of a resident in isolation. Review OSHA and exposure incidents. Review Bloodborne Pathogens and Multi-drug resistant organisms (MRSA, C-diff, VRE, and CRE)

   CH 5- Diversity and Human Needs and Development :Review Holistic Health care and Maselow's Hierarchy of Needs. Identify ways to accomodate cultural differences and the importance of the role of the family in healthcare. Identify ways to meed emotional, spiritual and sexual  needs of residents and families. Review stages of Growth and Development and Developmental disabilities.

 

2.  Watch and Practice Skills from 4yourCNA on youtube

   -Assist resident needing to use a bedpan

   -Provide perineal care to a female resident who is incontinent of urine

   -Provide catheter care to a female resident with an indwelling urinary catheter

   -Empty contents of urinary drainage bag and record urine output on I & O

 

3. Continue to do practice CNA review questions on CNA plus academy, Prometric Website, Quizziz and other websites on line
