PROFICIENCY AND CURRICULUM REQUIREMENTS

 

Course Name: 6th Grade Mathematics

 

Instructor(s): Carla Block-Ropiecki,  Blake Boffa, Lisa Busteed, Haleigh Kimble, Quenna Martin, Dan Pietro 

 

Course Description: 6th-grade mathematics will focus on Topic 1: Positive Rational Numbers, Topic 2: Integers and Rational Numbers, Topic 3: Numerical and Algebraic Expressions, Topic 4: Solving Equations and Inequalities, Topic 5: Ratios and Rates, Topic 6: Percents, Topic 7: Area, Surface Area and Volume, Topic 8: Display, Describe and Summarize Data.

 

Course Objectives/Curriculum: Students will master all standards in the NJ Core Content Standards

  • Google Classroom

 

Required Course Materials - All students will need the following:

 

-Chromebooks

-Notebook or Binder

-enVisions Math Workbook

-Pencil

-Pocket Folder

 

Grading Plan:

Grades will be generated using the Pleasantville School District grading policy outlined below:

 

  • Performance Based & Project Based Assessments- 25%

  • Teacher Made Assessments (Tests & Quizzes)- 20%

  • Benchmarks/Unit Assessments- 5%

  • Homework- 15%

  • Class Participation & Classwork- 35%

Course Policies: 

 

  • Student Work: Students will be expected to complete assignments outside of class time on a regular basis.  All students are expected to read class material, think critically, and write effectively.  Students are expected to use complete sentences, proper grammar, and correct spelling in every written performance.

 

  • Extra Credit: Opportunities for extra credit will be offered from time to time.  Extra credit is extra work above and beyond the usual homework, not work used to cover up missing work. This is given at teacher discretion. 

 

  • Absences: If a student is absent, it is HIS/HER responsibility to get all late work from the teacher and return it in a timely manner.

Academic honesty is expected in this class.  Cheating will not be tolerated. Consequences may include a reduction in grade on the assignment, repeat assignment, no grade on the assignment, or others as deemed appropriate.  Academic dishonesty will be reported to a school counselor and a parent will be notified.
