Mission for Acting Students: 
To understand that the theater artist is more than an entertainer. The theater artist is an integrated human being who is a creative member of a community. The actor/artist is valued for what they offer society and is deeply important in expressing the human experience in relation to relevant issues. The theater artist understands that they are an individual with a unique voice and point of view. They understand that they must work to be their own best and not "the best."

 

  • The actor takes artistic risks.
  • The actor's instrument (body, voice, imagination) is expressive, responsive, bold, confident, present, able to create believable characters and to communicate with an audience.
  • The actor can balance discipline with a sense of freedom and play.
  • The actor has an understanding of theater history and dramatic literature.
  • The actor can analyze and break down a scene from the actor's point of view.
  • The actor develops an acting process that is specific and fundamental that will ground the student in all his/her current and future acting work.
  • The actor is familiar with the process, vocabulary, and tools of the industry.
  • The actor is ready to move to the next phase of his/her career with confidence and expertise, including auditioning and competing for acting jobs and gaining acceptance into acting schools of choice.
