Home Reading Log

Dear Parents:

I would appreciate your help in keeping your child’s Home Reading Log throughout the school year.  Please read with your child for at least 15 minutes every day.  You may, of course, read more than 15 minutes or more than one book.  Record the necessary information on you child’s Home Reading Log sheet in the homework binder and return it to school every Friday.  Please remember to sign the log.

Helping children discover the joys of reading is important for their academic success and lifelong fulfillment!  Think about your favorite books when you were your child’s age and how wonderful it feels to “get lost” in a good story.  Please encourage your child to discover different kinds of books and unlock new sources of knowledge, perspective, and wonder.

Students may sometimes choose books that are slightly above or below their reach.  While it’s alright to read a comfortable, easier book now and then, on the other hand reading a book that is too hard can be a frustrating and a waste of time.  Please help us make sure your child understands what he or she is reading.  This can occur very naturally while you are reading with your child or even when traveling in the car.  Included in this packet are some specific strategies to assist your child.  Make sure to refer to this packet to identify and respond to errors in reading.  Also included are Book Sharing Questions to improve comprehension in the homework binder.

Thank you in advance for your support!
