Homework Policy

 

Why I Assign Homework

Your second grader is assigned homework because it reinforces what has been learned in class, teaches responsibility and helps your child develop good study habits.

 

When is Homework Assigned?

 

Homework will be assigned Monday through Friday.  Your child will be given at least two homework pages per night except on Fridays when only math homework will be assigned.  Assignments sent home may include, but are not limited to Health/Character Ed., Language Arts, Math, Handwriting, Science, or Social Studies.  In addition, your child is required to read for at least 15 minutes every night, keep a log, and bring it in once a week with parent signatures.  Please check the weekly planner every night to make sure that your child has completed his or her homework.  A second grader is not old enough to do this alone.  You can help your child start and keep good work habits.

 

Students' Homework Responsibilities
Students are expected to do their best on their homework.  I expect it to be done neatly. I would like to see that students gave it their best effort, not a blank sheet.  All assignments are to be turned in the next day except for Friday homework, which is due on Monday.

 

Parents' Homework Responsibilities

 

You are the key to making homework a positive experience for your children; therefore, I ask that you make homework is a top priority, provide necessary supplies, a quiet environment, and set a daily time.  All assignments have been explained in class, however your child might need a review of directions.  Please take the time to review homeowrk assignments that have already been corrected so you can see how your child is progressing.  If you have questions or comments about an assignment, please write them on the homework page or in your child's agenda pad.  If your child consistently struggles with the homework, please contact me.

 

If Students Do Not Complete Homework

 

If your child misses homework repeatedly or more than three times a week, I will contact you.  

 

If there is a legitimate reason why your child could not do the homework, please send me a note since there are always exceptions to the rule.

 

 

If students bring homework in on time everyday for 3 weeks, they can choose a PRIZE form my prize box or get a NO HOMEWORK PASS which is good for one homework asssignment (not math)!
