Civics - Coach Gregory

Neville High School - Room 514

2nd and 3rd Periods

Welcome back Sophomores and welcome to Neville Freshmen.  It's great to see so many familiar faces, as well as new ones.  As you begin this year of high school, some serious consideration must be given to your futures.  You have already made a big decision by enrolling in an honors course.  You will gain valuable experience in a fast-paced class that will prepare you for the rigors of college life.

This will be a challenging course with a lot of responsibility placed on you.  Though it is tough, it will pay dividends in the future when you face this type of demanding work as college students.  We will aim to have multiple choice tests periodically with written response practice occurring about every two to three weeks.  As we get further into the course and at a good steady pace, we will see the document-based questions.  There will occasionally be reading at night.  Vocabulary quizzes will be thrown at you every so often.  Begin the year with a positive attitude and set the tone for a great year.

Missed tests and quizzes will need to be made up in a timely manner, according to school policy.  While homework assignments may be turned in for late grades, there will be a time limit on how late is allowed.  There is no extra credit work, so all grades must be earned in the present.  PBIS tickets may be redeemed for 5 bonus points on a test, with a limit of two tickets per 9 weeks.

There is a LEAP 2025 test at the end of the year.  It is required for graduation to score at least Approaching Basic.  However, the score converts into your final exam grade, accounting for 15% of your final average, so you want a high score to help keep or boost your final average.
