COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

The student should be in the Health Pathway to help the student pursue their specific career pathway.

This course is to provide the beginning student in Health Science with the basic entry-level knowledge and skills requires for a variety of health occupations.

This course will offer the students the opportunity to become CPR certified. They will take an 8-hour course in Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid through the American Heart Association. Upon successful completion of the skills check offs and written test, they will receive a certificate of completion.

This course is an introduction to the different careers available in the healthcare field. Past and current trends in healthcare will be identified by exploring the history of medicine. In this course students will be studying medical ethics and laws, characteristics of health care professionals, and the U.S. healthcare delivery system. Students will learn about the educational requirements, salary outlook and skills that they possess that align with the different careers. This course is designed to assist students interested in healthcare careers decide which healthcare pathway or career choice is suitable.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL PHILOSOPHY

To provide basic instruction in medical field related occupations.

To provide instruction in specific job-related skills for areas of the medical/health field.

To provide knowledge regarding opportunities for students to pursue a medical/health career. 

To provide students with introductory information in health occupations to serve as a basis for career selection.

To enable students to identify good health care practices and resources needed to maintain proper health care.

To provide an adequate foundation of information and skills that will stimulate student interest in advanced study of the health professions.

 

 

 

COURSE GOALS

 

The student will have an understanding of the Health Careers and their role they may want to pursue as an individual career pathway.

The student will achieve 80% or better on all evaluations.

The students interest in Health care careers will enhance choices in their college decisions.

The student will become CPR certified.

Projects
            * Health Career Research Project-   100 Points    

            *Cell Project- 3 dimensional model-100 Points

*Several different projects on selected Body Systems diseases/disorders -worth              50-100 points each

           

 

SUPPLIES:

 

Note cards, loose leaf/notebook for note taking. Pens/Pencils. Pocket folder with prongs for assingments. Pocket folder for handouts.

Visual aides in the classroom, Posters, skeletons/Videos/Promethean Board/Computer
