7th Grade: The goal of this class is to introduce students to the Spanish language, build a foundational vocabulary, and foster an understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures. Throughout the unit, students will develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Spanish through engaging teacher-led lessons, interactive games, and culturally rich songs. Students will learn to use Spanish alongside English to: Engage in meaningful conversations. Understand and interpret spoken and written language. Present information, concepts, and ideas effectively. In addition, students will explore the cultural perspectives of Spanish-speaking communities. They will make cross-curricular connections, compare Spanish language and culture with their own, and recognize the role of Spanish in both local and global communities.
Students will build a strong foundation in Spanish by learning key grammatical concepts and vocabulary that enable them to describe themselves, others, and their daily lives. The focus will be on the correct use of subject pronouns and the verbs ser, estar, tener, and gustar in various contexts. Students will: Learn to match subject pronouns with correct verb forms. Use ser and estar to describe physical traits, emotions, and locations. Apply tener to express possession and physical conditions. Use gustar to communicate likes and dislikes. Incorporate adjectives to describe people and things, matching gender and number. Tell time in Spanish using appropriate structures and expressions. Throughout the unit, students will practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills through interactive lessons, dialogues, and cultural activities. By the end of the unit, students will be able to confidently describe themselves and others, express preferences, and discuss simple daily routines—all while gaining an appreciation for the Spanish language and culture.
