ACT - Practice at home..!!

In class:  ACT Science Test Helpful Hints Take notes on testing strategies in your chemistry notebook. Be prepared to apply these strategies to the practice test given in class . Remember we have been working on our Bell work basing on ACT!!

Watch and take notes on three videos. Record title of the video, view the video, and take notes on strategies. Video 1:   ACT Science:  Kaplan Strategies for Pattern ?'s, Video 2:  ACT Science: Kaplan Strategies for Reading and Interpreting Figures, Video 3:   Kaplan Conflicting View Points Strategies

#1. Preparing for the ACT   Take notes on the science test strategies in the “Preparing handout, complete the Science test (test 4) this will take 35 minutes to complete, time yourself, grade the test, and calculate score. Grade practice test #1 taken in class today and learn from your mistakes (the most important thing you can do is learn from your mistakes!), highlight any ?'s you want to discuss. Record your score at the top of the test  _____/40 (Raw score), determine scaled score using this table, record scaled score, ______/36 at the top of your test under raw score.  RECORD in your chemistry note-book the strategies that you will use on tomorrow's practice test.

#2. Describe the 3 types of questions asked on the Science ACT and strategies for handling each type.(This article is several pages long, READ all of it, at the bottom of each page click continue to the next section) Grade practice test #2 taken in class today and learn from your mistakes(the most important thing you can do is learn from your mistakes!), highlight any ?'s you want to discuss. Record your score at the top of the test  _____/40 (Raw score), Scale Score Conversion Table for ACT Practice Tests 1-3, record scaled score, ______/36 at the top of your test under raw score.  RECORD in your chemistry note-book the strategies that you will use on tomorrow's practice test.

#3. Take notes on the following videos:  The Princeton Review Video and How to map a science passageTake free on-line timed Science ACT test(s) (There are 4 to choose from) and watch the 3- videos that outline the strategies for the 3 different types of Science ACT questions. (Please see me if you would like a hard copy of a practice ACT science test.  I have several you can take.)  Grade practice test #3 taken in class today and learn from your mistakes(the most important thing you can do is learn from your mistakes!), highlight any ?'s you want to discuss. Record your score at the top of the test  _____/40 (Raw score), Scale Score Conversion Table for ACT Practice Tests 1-3, record scaled score, ______/36 at the top of your test under raw score.

Take each practice test as if it were the REAL ACT.

1. Time yourself.  35 minutes for the Science ACT

2. Take the test somewhere QUIET with no DISTRACTIONS (turn off the cell phone for 35minutes)

3. Apply proven strategies.  The more closely your attitude and strategies reflect those you'll use on March 3rd the better chance you'll have of increasing your Science ACT score.

4. Take a practice test and then go have some FUN!

Grade practice test #4 taken in class today and learn from your mistakes(the most important thing you can do is learn from your mistakes!), highlight any ?'s you want to discuss. Record your score at the top of the test  _____/40 (Raw score), Scale Conversion Table Test #4 record scaled score, ______/36 at the top of your test under raw score.

Set aside time between now and March 5th to review science test strategies and take additional practice tests.  The best way to prepare for the ACT is to take practice tests. See below for additional resources on practice tests and strategies.
