Sammons “Meet The Teacher” – Sammons Elementary School

Thanks so much for stopping by to learn a few things about me! I am very excited about being your child's teacher and I am looking forward to a wonderful year!

From a very young age, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I love working with children of all ages and am fortunate to have had a vast variety of teaching experience in my 30+ years of teaching. After graduating from Glassboro State College with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education (K-8) and History, I taught computer classes, tutored, and took a long term 4th grade position at Herma Simmons Elementary in Clayton, New Jersey. I worked in Clayton for three years before coming to South Harrison. In South Harrison I have worked in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade positions. During that time I also went back to college at Rowan University to earn a Master's Degree in Reading as well as certification to be a Reading Specialist. After developing a love for teaching Math, I also became Highly Qualified in Math (K-8).

I know I was meant to end up at South Harrison, as it is here where I met Doug,my husband of 21 years. He is a music teacher in the Swedesboro-Woolwich School District. We have two children, Douglas who is 19 and Samantha who is almost 17. Douglas is a freshman in college this year majoring in Computer Science/Physics. Samantha is a senior in high school this year. She plays soccer, the clarinet, and enjoys being in the choir as well. They keep us very busy and are the pride and joy of our lives.

I feel very fortunate to be able to have a career I enjoy so much. Thank you in advance for sharing your child with me this school year!
