RE: Resident Artist

Dear Lorenzo Medici,

I am contacting you regarding the resident artist position advertised in the studio of Verrocchio. I am currently apprenticing under the master himself. I am very interested in becoming part of your court and family. It is a dream of mine to work with a patron who appreciates artistic freedom, as much as I do.

My relevant qualifications include my first apprenticeship with Vasari, the owner of the art studio in lower Florence as well as my current apprenticeship under Verrocchio. I have very quickly become Verrocchio’s number one artist, with many less relevant nobles than you requesting my work, in this role.  In all such pieces I have demonstrated the talent of one many years me senior. I work day and night now and will continue doing so for you. I am able to sketch, sculpt, and paint without flaw. Three of the most recent customers at the art studio have requested that, I, Leonardo, paint portraits of their entire family.

In conclusion I will be an asset to your court. I will make you the most pleased patron of all the city-states on the peninsula. I will create anything you desire. I will teach and train your young sons the art world so that they may grow to be well educated men and rulers.

Thank you for considering me for this most honored of positions.

Best Regards,

Leonardo da Vinci
