Personal Finances

Welcome to the exiting world of personal finance! This class focuses on your role as a citizen, student, family member, consumer, and active participant in the business world. The intent of Managing Your Personal Finances is to inform you of your various financial responsibilities and to provide you with opportunities for self-awareness, expression, and satisfaction in a highly technical and competitive society.

This class will help you investigate many important areas of interest that will enhance your financial security. You will also better understand your own wants, needs, and values, and how these affect personal financial decisions. Understanding the concepts presented in this class will enable you to make wise decisions that will help your financial future and make you a more effective consumer.

In a semester you can expect 10 homework assignments and 7 tests. All grades in class are weighted the same.

Note-taking is a daily classroom task. If you take notes everyday, you should have no problems in passing the class with a high mark.

In class we will cover the following topics:
-Careers
-Self-assessments
-Career Development (create a resume, cover letter, job application, references, and envelope)
-Brief overview of the stock market
-Banking services (checking/savings accounts)
-Check writing and overview of online check writing
-Create a budget
