Course Description:
This course provides an overview of microcomputer applications including Microsoft Windows 10, Microsoft Office 2016, Microsoft Word 2016, Microsoft Excel 2016, Microsoft Access 2019, and Microsoft PowerPoint 2019. No experience with a computer is assumed, and no mathematics beyond the high school freshman level is required.
Course Outcomes:
The objectives of this offering are to:
- To teach the fundamentals of Microsoft Windows 10, Microsoft Word 2019, Microsoft PowerPoint 2019, Microsoft Excel 2019, and Microsoft Access 2019
- To expose students to practical examples of the computer as a useful tool
- To acquaint students with the proper procedures to create documents, presentations, worksheets, and databases suitable for coursework, professional purposes, and personal use
- To help students discover the underlying functionality of Office 2019 so they can become more productive
- To develop an exercise-oriented approach that allows learning by doing

Lectures/Notes will be given by PowerPoint presentations.
Teaching Methods:
- Lectures: Important material from the text and outside sources will be covered in class. Students should plan to take careful notes as not all material can be found in the texts or readings. Discussion is encouraged as is student-procured outside material relevant to topics being covered.
- Assignments: End of Module activities and online activities will be assigned to reinforce material in the text. These assignments may require the application of various software packages. see Google Classroom for deadlines.
- Quizzes: Occasional unannounced quizzes will be given to help ensure students keep up with assigned material.
- Exams: The exams will be closed book/notes and will test assigned readings and material discussed in class. Notes and assignments should be used for reviewing material prior to a test. However, the instructor reserves the right to retest on material that was not appropriately comprehended. These items will be noted on exam review sheets.
- Participation: Student participation will be graded by the level of class participation and attendance.

Course Policies:
Missed Classes: The student is responsible for obtaining material distributed on class days when he/she was absent. This can be done through Google Classroom. Students have 3 days to submit missed work. After that a zero will stay on your assignment.
Assignments: All assignments are due at the beginning of class on the date due. Work will not be accepted Late.
Academic Dishonesty: For more information refer to the Plagiarism" policy in the student handbook, page 78.
Need for Assistance: If you have any condition, such as a physical or learning disability, please see page 74 in your student handbook. All IEP and 504's are followed as stated in each student's plan.
Posting of Grades: Students can see all of their grades on the Parent Portal.

How To: Your Turn present general guidelines for fundamental skills when using a computer or mobile device and then require that students to determine how to apply these general guidelines to a specific program or situation.
Extend Your Knowledge is an assignment that challenges students to extend the skills learned in this Module and to experiment with new skills. Students may need to use Help to complete the assignment.
Analyze, Correct, Improve is an assignment that asks students to analyze a document, correct all errors, and improve the design.
In the Labs is a series of assignments that ask students to design and/or format a document.
Consider This: Your Turn is a series of assignments in which students apply creative thinking and problem-solving skills to design and implement solutions.
