New Jersey - West New York Middle School Students Get 'Internet Smart'

May 26, 2006

On Friday, May 26, 2006, 8th grade students at the West New York Middle School in West New York, NJ, presented a lesson on cyberbullying to Assemblyman/Mayor Albio Sires and Hudson County Clerk Javier Inclan, who attended on behalf of Senator Robert Menendez.

The students lead a workshop in both English and Spanish designed to teach guests and fellow classmates about appropriate Internet use.  Following an Internet safety quiz, the students were presented with certificates declaring them "Internet Smart"

"As the mayor of West New York I appreciate Cablevision's efforts to enhance the educational experience of our students," said Mayor Albio Sires.  "Education is important to improving our community and it's wonderful to see so many constituents come together to support safe and appropriate usage of technology in education."

The cyberbullying case study is one of six topics discussed in Cablevision's Power to Learn's Internet Smarts program.  Internet Smarts is Cablevision's Power to Learn's signature public affairs program, which provides a forum for teachers and parents to work with children to understand which online behaviors and practices are safe and appropriate and which are not.  For more information on Internet Smarts please visit: http://dev.temp.powertolearn.com:8000/internet_smarts/index.shtml
