To ensure a positive and safe learning environment in our classroom, the following discipline plan will be in effect:
Each student has a surfboard with four colored dots: green, yellow, blue, and red as well as a jeweled purple clip awarded for examplary behavior. The first minor infraction will result in a yellow board, the second will be blue, and the third will be red.
Your child will color the surfboard on the conduct sheet the corresponding color of his/her surfboard on the discipline board at the end of each day. Please sign the sheet every day so that I will know you are aware of your child’s daily behavior choices.
Rewards and Consequences are as follows:
Purple Clip: Exceptional and unprompted good behavior - two treats or stickers!
Green Board: Great job! Zero or one reminder to follow the rules - treat or sticker
Yellow Board: Warning; no daily reward
Blue Board: Time out in class and/or loss of recess, activity, or incentive, teacher conference with student to discuss alternate ways of solving problems
Red Board: All of the above plus contact with parent via note, phone call, or email. This infraction will be documented in the student's "Step Plan". Additionally, the student may be sent to Administration with a formal behavior report if the infraction is severe or persistent.
*NOTE: Any major infraction will result in immediate removal from the classroom and notification from the office. In addition, infractions beyond a “red board” in one day will result in recess detention, and/or assignment of before-school detention. Please refer to the DSE Student Handbook for a description of the schoolwide discipline policy.
Additional Rewards:
Students who earn green or purple each day of the school week choose a prize from the class Treasure Box on Friday!
Denham Dollars: These tickets will be kept in the classroom and may be redeemed for school wide rewards.
Table Incentives: Clips will be distributed to tables who work cooperatively and quietly throughout the week.
