Preschool Child Study Team

 

Hello Pre-K Families! 

I want to extend to you and your child my warmest welcome to a successful new school year!

 

My name is Clarissa Herrera and I am the School Psychologist on the Preschool Child Study Team for the West New York School District. 

 

I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences and Psychology from Rutgers University. I continued to further my education and earned my first and second Master's Degrees in Educational Psychology as well as School Psychology from New Jersey City University. 

 

Additionally, I am an active member of both the New Jersey Association of School Psychologists (NJASP) and the National Association of School Psychologists (NSAP)

My role as a School Psychologist is to ensure that all students have access to a free, appropriate public education, have access to the curriculum at all times despite their learning styles and social-emotional needs, and have an avenue to communicate their wants and needs as well as express themselves as individual young learners. In addition to this, it is also my responsibility to work your child's teacher to maximize the your child's learning and help them achieve their fullest potential through hands-on experiences, creative learning and learning through play.

 

The Preschool Child Study Team is composed of other key role members that are involved in your child's learning and social-emotional growth. Our team is composed of a Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant, a Licensed School Social Worker and two Nationally Certified School Psychologists (myself being the one). We are ALL bilingual speakers and are always willing to assist our students and their families in every way we can.
