Welcome Back for the 2022-2023 School Year!
Please check out "Math Lessons/Additional Activities" and "PowerPoint Lessons/Reteach Videos" for additional help and enrichment activities!
In this math class we will be encouraged to do the following:
-
Make sense of mathematics: I want you to understand what you are doing as opposed to just following a set of procedures.
-
Keep trying even when problems are challenging: Not all problems can be solved in a split second. Problem-solving takes planning, strategizing, and persistence.
-
Remember that it’s okay to make mistakes and revise our thinking. I will encourage you to take risks, put partial ideas in motion. You may stumble along the way, but that’s to be expected when learning something new. Being able to revise your thinking is a necessary step in learning.
-
Share our mathematical ideas with our classmates.
-
Listen to understand someone else’s ideas.
-
Give each other time to think.
-
Ask questions that help us better understand mathematics: Asking questions of one another or during the whole group, discussions are a way to show that you are listening and trying to understand a concept.
-
Agree and disagree with mathematical ideas, not with each other. We will be examining and questioning many mathematical ideas. This will give you an opportunity to compare strategies and solutions and make revisions.
I look forward to an exciting school year!
Mr. Lehman
