Characteristics of Civilizations

 

1. Centralized Government- Central authority, laws/rules to protect people in a civilization

2. Organized Religion- The belief system of a civilization

3. Economy/Job Specializtion- The resources of a civilization and how they produce/use them, and an individual's concentration in a particular area.

4. System of Tribute- payment of taxes to the government for services

5. Surplus Food- Having access to more food than a civilization needs allowing it to sustain itself.

6. Planned Infrastructure- physical organizational structures such as buildings, roads, and needs for a civilization to function.

7. Trade- The exchange of goods and services

8. Accumulated Learning- Gathering of knowledge that results in achievements in communication, math, science, and technology/innovation.

9. Arts- Creative and cultural expression through arts, music, and dance.
