Remember when you were younger and reading was so much fun? You learned that some caterpillars are very hungry, that giant cats make really fun babysitters, that a lot of fun can

be had outside on a snowy day, and that there's a flock of swans for everyone. For years I've heard from students that reading isn't fun any more because it is required and that the school-assigned books are boring. Well, here's your chance to reverse that outlook!

What cover

Since the district is not requiring a reading assignment for Summer Break 2019, it's your chance to read for fun again!

Linked here is a list of books, short stories, etc. that can help

you prepare for senior year, and besides that are just really fun and interesting reads. The senior year Language Arts curriculum focuses on your philosophy of life and uses World Literature to approach that. Keeping those ideas in mind, the stories suggested here are about people developing their own philosophies based on their interactions in the world. Some are written by non-American authors about non-American experiences, while others are written about balancing an American upbringing with a family life steeped in the cultures of another land. Some are about the pressures of society, while others focus on an internal struggle. Some are about genocide, while others are about learning to come together despite differences.

I hope you find one that really speaks to you. If anything will prepare you

for life outside of BRHS, it's reading stories like these.
