I can't wait to get to know all of you and help throughout your very important junior year of high school! In case you're curious, here's a bit about me:
- Outside of school I work part-time at Goats of Anarchy, a nonprofit sanctuary for special needs goats. Yes, there is a need for that. The goats that land at GOA find their way to our farm from all over the country. Many have lost limbs from frostbite, some have neurological issues, and some are blind. Did you catch Polly make news with her duck costume a few years ago? Or maybe Ansel the Destroyer finding ways to cause mischief? They're all adorable, affectionate, and a really worthwhile way to spend my time outside of the classroom.
- Though it's often difficult to fit in non-academic reading during the school year, it's my favorite activity (surprise!). Visiting bookstores is my second. You can frequently find me perusing the carts of the Strand Bookstore in Manhattan.
- Media Studies and Journalism were my early passions, and still hold my deep interest. I also just happen to believe knowledge of what is happening in the world helps prepare students to become citizens of it once they leave our suburban enclave. This is why you'll often find it seeps its way into our curriculum.
- November 4, 2019 marks my 10-year veganversary. And while you won't find me voluntarily speaking of this topic in class, students who have been in my class can tell you that I'm more than happy to discuss it if you're ever interested in learning more. :-) You'll also see that any occasional food I bring in is vegan-friendly. (Don't worry--this means Oreos, Twizzlers, and more "accidentally vegan" foods.)
