Hello! Welcome to our A11 Truman School Families.
We are excited for a fun filled year of learning. As your child begins this new journey, here are some helpful tips to prepare for the first few days.
· In addition to lunch, please send a small, healthy snack to school each day. Pack the snack separate from the lunch and please label it with your child’s name and the word “snack’
· Your child will be provided with a Truman School folder. This folder needs to return to school each day. The ‘go home/stay home’ side of the folder should be emptied each night. Any papers in the ‘return to school’ side should be reviewed, completed and returned to school the next day.
· Attendance and prompt arrival are important.
· Children are allowed to keep a water bottle next to their seat all day. Please make sure the bottle has a secure cap and won’t spill.
· Please Do Not send any classroom supplies with your child before Monday, September 12. Some supplies we will be requesting are a plastic supply box and earphones but we will discuss these and other materials we may need at Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 20.
Please feel free to contact us with questions throughout the school year. When emailing us, please copy both teachers in the email.

Helpful Tips for Kindergarten Parents
Label Belongings
Please be sure to label all important personal belongings. This includes backpack, lunchbox, jackets, sweaters, hats, umbrellas etc.
Snack Time
On most full school days we will take a break for snack in the classroom. You may send in a simple, neat, nutritious snack for your child. Suggestions include pretzels, crackers, cereal, granola bar, banana. Please try to avoid crumby, messy or greasy snacks, also avoid anything that needs a fork or spoon. Please try to be sensitive of possible food allergies. Your child may keep a water bottle at their seat at all times. Please pack your child’s snack separate from their lunch. In addition, please label both the snack bag and the water bottle.
Lunch Time
Lunch will be served on all school days. If your child will be bringing lunch from home, please be sure to send it in a labeled bag or lunchbox. If you would like your child to buy lunch at school, you can prepay in their account at www.myschoolbucks.com or send in money on a daily basis. All money sent into school must be in a labeled envelope that states the child’s name and class number (kc5) and what it is to be spent on. The monthly lunch menu will be posted on the school website. Please review the menu with your child before school. We strongly discourage the “fiesta bag” option as it is more like a snack.
Attendance / Absence
Please make every effort to have your child at school every day on time. If your child will be absent for illness or religious reasons, please inform the nurse as soon as possible. If you child will be absent for an extended period of time, please notify the teacher. Make up work will be sent home for multiple days absence. Work cannot be sent home ahead of time for a planned trip or vacation.
Birthday Celebrations
We will do our best to make your child feel special on his or her birthday. We will sing and present your child with a pencil, crown, sticker ect. If you would like to send in a treat for your child's birthday, please be aware that you may send in a non-food item for each child in the class. In addition, if you plan to pass out party invitations in school, you must invite everyone in the class. If you prefer to invite a select few, you can send in stamped envelopes with a list of the children's names. We will address them and mail them that day.
Attire
Please be sure to dress your child in comfortable clothing for school that they can manipulate independently (snaps, zippers etc.) Although we do have air conditioning in our school, the temperature conditions can change from day to day. Please dress in layers or provide your child with a light sweater or hoodie so they will be comfortable. You may also choose to pack a simple change of clothes in a bag (to be kept in their backpack) in case of spill or bathroom accident.
Backpack/Truman Folder
Please send your child’s Truman folder to school in their backpack every day. Also be sure to review all papers in the folder on a daily basis. Papers on the left side of the folder should be removed and kept at home. Papers on the right side of the folder need to be returned to school. As the school your progresses, you may find it necessary to replace your child’s folder. We do not supply replacement folders but you may replace it with a 2 pocket folder of your child’s choosing. A bus/walker tag will be attached to your child’s backpack. It is used to assist in getting the children to their designated dismissal area during the month of September. If it falls off after September, there is no need to replace it.
