USING REFLEXIVE VERBS REQUIRES THE USE OF REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS
These reflexive pronouns must be used with reflexive verbs, for the verb to function.
1) me=myself 1)nos=ourselves
2) te=yourself (fam.) 2) os (yourselves fam/pl :obsolete)
3) se= himself, herself, itself, yourself (for.) 3) se=themselves (m/f), yourselves (pl.)
REFLEXIVE VERBS express actions that we do to ourselves, such as those listed here. Note that some of them are regular; some are stem-changing!
(en la cama=in the bed)
1) acostarse(ue)=to go to bed
2) dormirse(ue)=to fall asleep
3) despertarse(ie)=to wake up
4) levantarse=to get up
5) sentarse(ie)=to sit down
(en el baño=in the bathroom)
6) afeitarse=to shave
7) arreglarse=to fix oneself up
8)bañarse=to take a bath; to bathe
9) ducharse=to take a shower
10) lavarse=to wash (oneself)
11) peinarse=to comb one’s hair
12) cepillarse=to brush
*el pelo=hair; fur *los dientes=teeth
(la ropa=clothes;clothing)
12) quitarse=to take off
13) ponerse=to put on
14) vestirse(i)=to get dressed; to dress (oneself)
