We have been busy here in C-7. Here is what we have been up to in class...
In Math... We have been working on Topic 1 - Multiplication and Division. Students have been exploring the relationship between multiplication and repeated addition, as well as division and repeated subtraction. They are learning to represent multiplication and division using arrays, pictures, and bar diagrams.
In Science... Students learned about living and nonliving things and about how living things must have their needs met in their environment.
In Social Studies... We discussed Patriot's Day, the events of 9/11, and the heroes that helped save many people on that tragic day. We read the book September Roses and then students dedicated a rose to a person they admire in their own life.
In Writing... We are learning the routines of writing workshop and have read several mentor texts. Students have been writing in their Writer's notebooks and have had the opportunity to share their writing with the class.
In Reading... We reviewed characters and talked about character traits. Students read passages, identified a trait for a main character, and provided text evidence to support their thinking.
In Spelling... We reviewed the short a and short i. Students logged onto the Spelling website and also completed workbook pages to practice these skills.
In Daily 5... Students explored some of the websites we will use in class this year, such as Learning A - Z and Epic! We also reviewed some manuscript letters in handwriting, and reviewed grammar skills.
We are off to a great start! Looking forward to seeing you at Back to School Night on September 25th!
