Our Classroom Math Centers

Our daily math curriculum consists mostly of “hands on” activities to reinforce skills practiced in math circle time.  Students will visit 2 centers a day to start during math centers.  The activities will change on a monthly basis.

Examples of Math Centers:

  1. 1.     Number Station: Students will explore numbers 1-20.  There will be counting activities, number writing activities, and number games available for students.  Students will be comparing and sequencing different sets of numbers.
  2. 2.     Pattern Station: Students can use a variety of math manipulatives (colored counting bears, paper clips, buttons, pattern blocksetc.) to make patterns.
  3. 3.     Shape Station:  Students will explore both 2D and 3D shapes throughout the year.  They will use shapes to make pictures, play shape bingo, use crayon rubbings to identify shapes in pictures, use shape stencils, play shape games.
  4. 4.     Graphing Stations: Students will do different graphing activities throughout the year.  Students will learn how to read, make and interpret information from a graph.
  5. 5.     Adding Station: Students will solve simple addition problems in the beginning of the year using manipulatives. As the year progresses, they will be able to solve addition word problems and more complex addition problems.
  6. 6.     Subtracting Stations: Students will solve simple subtraction problems in the beginning of the year using manipulatives.  As the year progresses, they will be able to solve subtraction word problems and more complex subtraction problems.
  7. 7.     Sorting & Measuring: Students will sort objects by different attributes.  Students will also learn to measure with non-standard units of measurement as well as standard units of measurement.

During Math Center time, students will be meeting in small math groups to reinforce skills being taught.  Students will meet with Miss Alison    2-3 times a week.
