Daily Academic Schedule:

 

9:00- Attendance and Lunch Count

 

9:15- Morning Meeting:

 

   *Sight Word Recognition- Students identify and review weekly sight words.  

 

   *Date/Weather/Specials- The daily helper is asked to stand, read the date, discuss the weather and identify the special/specials of the day. 

 

 Language Arts: 

9:30- ISME is a multi-sensory language arts program that teaches phonetics.  Students participate in a whole group phonics lesson each day.  The program focuses on decoding skills and reading strategies.  Each week a new letter is introduced.  Students will be creating an alphabet picture book.  

 

10:00-11:20 Centers: Students have the opportunity to work independently with a variety of hands-on materials.  This purposeful work allows students to build their concentration and independence. Individual and small group lessons are given to strengthen particular skills when necessary.  Guided Reading is a teacher directed activity that allows students to increase their fluency, comprehension, and sight words.  Schoolwide and Being a Writer are two language arts resources that develop writing skills, comprehension, and community.  

 

11:20-11:50- Lunch

 

12:00- Book Break:  Students are introduced to high-quality literature and are encouraged to read during center time.  Every week new books are gathered from the local library for students to read and examine.  Students are taught how to read the illustrations. 

 

 

12:10- Envision Math Lesson:

Envision math lessons are designed to develop critical thinking skills.  A whole group hands-on lesson is presented on the carpet.  Students then transition to work tables to complete the worksheet.  

 

12:50- Science, Social Studies, and/or a Health lesson with be presented.  

 

1:15- Snack 

 

1:40- 2:25-Afternoon Special

 

2:25- 3:10-Recess

 

3:12- Dismissal
