Classroom Policies & Expectations   |    Remote Learning Period

The classroom policies during the Remote Learning Period have been adjusted to accommodate this difficult learning environment.

All assignments are via Google Classroom +

  • Assignments have due dates (however, I offer much flexibility because an individual student home situation may not be an ideal learning environment)

  • Late and missing assignments - points will be deducted (depends on assignment - generally a sliding scale of 5 points per day) Excused absences - no deductions

  • Missing assignments will automatically calculate a grade of F - (the grade remains until the assignment is completed)

  • After grades have been made historical, a grade change can be made if justified correction is needed (Administration approval only)

  • Parent Conference call required for students that are  underperforming, failing, or have excessive absences

Google (Classroom) Meet Expectations

● Follow the Acceptable Use Policy at all times. Failure to do so may result in technology use restrictions.

● Make sure you have a functioning camera, dressed appropriately, and are seated. Try to find a wall you can work in front of, especially if there are other people at home. Try to find a spot with the least amount of disruptions.

● All students will log on to each class at the scheduled time. The attendance policy remains in effect during virtual learning. Court summons may be issued for excessive absences.

● Cameras must remain on and students are to stay logged on the entire time. Maintain good eye contact throughout the class.

● Stay on mute unless you would like to contribute, need to speak, or would like to ask a question.

● Laying in bed is not acceptable or appropriate.

● Do not share screenshots or images of Google Meet sessions that display images of students/teachers.

● The chat section should only be used to discuss or ask questions pertaining to the lesson.

**Failure to comply with these expectations will have a negative impact on your participation grades in class.

Electronic Devices:

  • Mobile cell phones are to be turned off and must not be visible while in class (unless the teacher has given permission for educational purposes) and in the hallways. Violation of this mobile cell phone policy may result in being sent to the Administrative Office for disciplinary action.

  • No electronic entertainment devices for personal use—IPODS, radios, CD or cassette players, game-boys, MP3 players, portable TV’s, etc.— are to be brought to school.

Dress Code

  • Dress code will be enforced. Under the Memorial High School Handbook, "Schools uniforms must be worn at all times when the student is in the building or on school grounds...any student in violation of our policy should be sent to the appropriate administrative office immediately"(35).

Tardy/Cuts

  • BE ON TIME...Under the Memorial High School Handbook, "If a student is late to class, the Class Teacher may assign detention in the auditorium on the same day at 2:25 p.m." (58).

  • Unless the student provides a note from a teacher or administrator as to why he or she is late, the student will be given a detention if late for homeroom or class.

  • CUTTING IS SERIOUS INFRACTION...Cutting is not tolerated in Memorial High School. Cutting policy is as follows:  ( see Student Handbook)

  • 1st Cut- detention + parent notification

  • 2nd Cut- detention + parent conference

Restroom Policy:

  • Please request bathroom pass before class instruction begins or near the end of the class period. There is flexibility but do not abuse it.

Parent Portal

  • Parent Portal is secure and strictly confidential. If you have not already subscribed to the Parent Portal and would like to obtain access, you must go to the school to pick up your respective Access ID Number and Access Password. Students will be given their access credentials at school.

Class Dismissal & Fire/Emergency Procedure

  • The bell marks the end of the class period.  The bell doesn't dismiss students. The teacher dismisses the students.

  • Follow all teachers instructions and procedures for emergency drills or actual event.
