TIMELINE FOR THE COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS 

 

NECESSARY STEPS

 

 

STEP 1:    SHOULD ALL BE COMPLETED BY END OF SEPTEMBER

 

____Search collegeboard.org    

 

____Fill out MHS lunch application

 

____See your counselor for SAT fee waiver/college application fee waiver

 

____Create an account (username/password) through collegeboard.org

 

____Register for the SAT’s (Oct, Nov, Dec, and/or Jan)

 

____Search "Find Your Match" to find the right college for you                      

 

 

STEP 2:   SHOULD ALL BE COMPLETED BY END OF OCTOBER

              MID OCTOBER FOR EARLY ADMISSION

 

____Visit commonapp.org  to see which of your colleges use this type of application                            (Go to "All Members") 

 

____Check out which supplementals are necessary

 

____Check the appl. deadline (Rolling Admissions?) (By Oct. 15th)  

 


STEP 3:  SHOULD ALL BE COMPLETED BY THE MIDDLE OF NOVEMBER

 

____Print out "Teacher Recommendation Form" & give to two (2) teachers 

 

____Ask teachers (2) for recommendation letters (by Nov. 1st)

 

____Find the requirements and Write your college application essay(s) (by Nov 1st)

 

 

 

STEP 4:  SHOULD ALL BE COMPLETED BY MIDDLE OF DECEMBER

 

 

____Register for several colleges "Open House" dates (by Dec 1st)


____Apply to 3 – 7 colleges/universities online or paper (by Dec 15th)

 

REMEMBER:  

Give your counselor the items listed below for each college (By Dec 15th)

 

___completed paper college application (if applicable)

___self-addressed envelopes

___check or fee waiver

___stamps (4 per application)

___rec’d letters (2)

___college application essay
